[firn] an intermediate stage in the transformation of snow to glacier ice. snow becomes firn when it has been compressed so that no pore space remains between flakes or crystals, a process that takes less than a year.

she’s a drift 
she’s blinding white
in heaps that
never left 
in blazing 
circumstances

it took no
time at all
for time to
be so unforgiving

so she waits in a
silent in-between
in a drowning spark
for the escape to
suspend itself
in the glaze
