the rut

Photo by Eva Elijas on Pexels.com
the familiar
scrape of the blade
paper-cut euphoria
crimson gush reminder

an oily underbelly break
drop in, give in, give up
descend and dissolve
breathe in, disappear

hammer out
preexisting grooves
pave mirrored paths
pretend it’s stimulating

wade too far
into the shame spiral
send the kids ashore
wait for a miracle
