dear grandmother,

it’s been years but
you wrote me a letter.

folded it three times and
put it in an envelope,
scrawled my married name
across the front.

I wonder if you
needed to ask someone
for my address, maybe
even my last name –

you’ve never written it before.

not after my wedding
or the birth of my first child.

so maybe I’ll be grateful
that you wrote to me
now with such passion, a
two-sided notebook paper
rant dedicated just to me.

cruel, selfish, dishonorable
lil ol’ me.

after all, handwritten
letters are passe.

sincerely,
your granddaughter
